Welcome to the rest of your career...

Owner Operators

Owner operators are one of the most important aspects to the success of ELS. At ELS, we feel that owner operators are the backbone of the trucking industry and we are proud to say the majority of our fleet is owner operators.

Pay Scale: We at ELS understand that an extra 1% matters. That’s why we strive to offer the best pay in the flatbed market. We believe if you do good at your job, you should get a raise. That’s why every year we will give you a raise as long as you deliver your loads on time and keep a safe driving record. Yearly increases are broken down as follows: 70%, 71%, 72%, 73%, 74% and 75%.

Benefits: When you own and operate your own truck you are more than just the driver; you are the owner of your own business. Sometimes being your own boss and having to manage different aspects of your business can get in the way of doing what you love most—being on the open road. That’s why, at ELS, we try to minimize these other tasks so you can minimize down time and maximize uptime.

Pulling for us allows you to utilize our national tire programs; we have national tire accounts with Michelin, Bridgestone, Yokohama and General tire companies. We also have national service rates and prices at such vendors as TravelCenters of America, Petro, Speedco, FleetPride and Snider Tire. We also utilize FleetNet to ensure that breakdowns, when they do occur, are managed as efficiently as possible.

Just because you have one truck doesn’t mean that you can’t get fleet pricing. We feel you should pay the same price for tires whether you are in Kenly, NC or Barstow, CA.

They were able to set up a maintenance plan for me, just a single owner-operator with only one truck. It has really helped me to be able to prepare for not only planned, but unplanned maintenance expenditures as well as accurately predict my weekly checks. Most companies won’t do that for owner-operators.” – from an ELS Owner-operator

We are after just about any driver we can get our hands on. With a strong focus on family values and safety first, it is no wonder that we at ELS continue to be one of the fastest growing freight providers in not only the southeast, but the United States as well.

Company Drivers

We start out paying our company drivers at 25% of the line haul of the load they are hauling. Company drivers at ELS are treated much like the rest of our fleet; when load planners assign loads they do not know whether you are a company truck or not. We want every driver to have the same opportunity to haul the best loads. The “common myth” is that companies hold the best freight for their company trucks—this could not be farther from the truth at ELS. We give every driver, company or otherwise, as many options as we can. Does that mean we force dispatch? No—we follow our customer’s freight, and take as little brokered freight as possible. By doing this, we ensure that you are taking the best paying freight available.

We also pay you by your performance—working harder and safer will not only enhance your personal safety record, but it will put more money in your pocket from us.

Effective April 11, 2016…

Company drivers now have the opportunity reach our “Platinum” level, which would earn them a 3% bonus at the end of each month. While gainfully employed by ELS, LLC, drivers have to opportunity to earn up to 28% of each line haul they pull, if the three following stipulations are met:

  • Minimum 10,000 miles per month, loaded and empty both, miles must be authorized miles from the dispatch department, working miles only (seriously guys, 2500 miles a week should be easy for an OTR driver…). Miles to and from your house do not count!
  • Keep your total fuel MPG in the top half of the company (just like that—split our active driver roster in half, and find yourself on the “Platinum” half of that list….)
  • There must be zero safety violations and no customer complaints. Company drivers wishing to be eligible for this bonus must not turn down any load assigned (do like we ask, get the bonus and you’ll probably back yourself into more home time.
How does it work? Simple—you will become initially eligible once you have been here for a calendar month. If you start on April 11th, for instance, you will have your numbers ran from May 1, 2016 – May 31, 2016 as the first month you are “bonus eligible.” If you meet the above criteria, guess what? You get the difference between 25% and 28% for that month……very simple.

Lease Purchase

At ELS, our Lease Purchase (L/P) program is the cornerstone of what we have built thus far. Our program is centered on drivers buying quality trucks and starting their own business. Unlike most programs, we do not require down payments, credit checks or huge balloon payments. We offer late model owner operator spec’d Freightliner Coronado’s that come standard with ThermoKing APU’s, aluminum headache racks from Roadgear, built in refrigerators, wood-grained interior, and all trucks come satellite radio ready from the factory. Also, all of our trucks come with full factory warranties, for your piece of mind.

Pay Scale: We focus on longevity with our drivers—we want drivers to retire with us! We want drivers to not only lease a truck and pay for it, but turn around and lease another one and have the beginnings of their own fleet! We start L/P drivers at 70% of the freight revenue, 100% of the fuel surcharge, and 70% of any additional charges (extra stop charge, over-length charge, etc., when applicable). Once you complete your lease, we raise your percentage to as high as 75%!

Benefits: Just like the owner-operators section above, when you own and operate your own truck as a L/P driver, you are again more than just the driver; you are the owner of your own business. While being a L/P driver is slightly different than being a full owner-operator, who’s to say you can’t get the same owner/op benefits? We sure don’t.

Again, just because you are leasing one truck doesn’t mean that you can’t get the same “perks” as an owner-operator would, or furthermore, fleet pricing. We strive for the best prices in the industry and are able to pass those along to our drivers as well.

Maintenance Plans: Frequent service to your truck is just as important as delivering loads on time. We encourage planned maintenance on all trucks that ride under our logo, but how often do unplanned events arise in this industry? The better question is actually “How often do they not?”

At ELS, we have tried to lighten this burden as much as possible by getting fleet pricing at many major service chains and by setting aside money in your own personal maintenance fund, for when you need it. We generally know that it will take 12 cents per mile put towards over all maintenance on your truck. So every week we can set aside 12 cents per mile to put towards tires, brakes, breakdowns and whatever else may come your way. It’s always nice to know you have the money that you need to fix the problem at hand; breakdowns are stressful enough—paying for them shouldn’t be.

Keeping a truck running is something that takes continuous effort. Sometimes keeping your truck running might mean you have to make a choice between a personal and/or home matter and your truck because of a breakdown. At ELS, we strive to not ever let that happen, but we also have to be realistic and know that it will at some point. As long as you are a safe, reliable driver and contribute to your own maintenance fund, we will finance most breakdowns and equipment for you. It’s our goal to help keep you on the road and to lose as little time as possible—-period.
